I grew up in Columbia, Illinois. Just recently moved back there. Always loved the small, quiet town and still, just 15 minutes from downtown St. Louis. Developed a passion for baseball at the age of 8, baseball and numbers. Started collecting baseball cards then..and still have them!!
I worked for the Missouri Valley Conference from about 1988-92 and put together their All-Sports Record Book. Umpired baseball and softball for over 30 years, last umpiring in ’06, the last year my son played ball.
I worked for Boatmen’s/NationsBank/Bank of America for over 20 years. Developed Loss Reports for ATM/Debit Card/Credit Card.
I started “working” for Ladue Chapel, January 4, 2021 and immensely enjoy coming into work each day. I find it hard to believe that anyone could put a better group of people together. I am learning every day from the accounting systems.
I plan on stepping back on the field to umpire in the spring of 2022. Someone once asked me when I was going to “retire” from umpiring. I told him, “when the butterflies stop coming before the first pitch”. That actually has not happened yet.
There was a made-for-tv movie years ago “Brian’s Song”. It stems from a book titled “I am Third”. I try to live my life by that meaning. God is first, family is second, I am third. Sometimes, just like anything in life, you have to step back and refocus.
I have 3 grown children, Katalin, Stefan and Rebecca. I have one Grandson, Henry who is 5. He is a hoot.
I want to thank the Ladue Chapel family for bringing me in and definitely want to thank Jane Geer for her time training me and being there for any question that comes up.
Still waiting for a chance to talk with Dale Meier.
