Welcome! I became the Pastor/Head of Staff of Ladue Chapel in 2005 after serving congregations in Dayton, Ohio and Port Huron, Michigan. I earned my bachelors degree at Duke University and my Master of Divinity degree and Doctor of Ministry degree at Princeton Theological Seminary. My grandparents served as Presbyterian Missionaries in Hainan, China, and my father was a Presbyterian minister as well as his three brothers. I represent the fifth generation of Presbyterian clergy in my family.
My ministry is to love the church. I love the church as the people of God, the collection of precious individuals whom God loves, whom Jesus died for, and whom the Spirit guides, comforts, and empowers. I love the church as the body of Christ, as that communion of persons through whom God has chosen to reveal Godself, through whom God has chosen to speak, and through whom God has chosen to act. I love the church as the institution through which we, as followers of Christ, try to live out our faith. In other words, I love the Presbyterian Church. Not unlike Paul, I am committed to keep it together, to keep it seeking for the truth of the gospel, to keep it faithfully representing Christ in both spirit and practice, in both ardor and order. My ministry is to love the church in all its dimensions, and especially Ladue Chapel.
My wife, Holly, who sings in the choir, is a native to St. Louis, with degrees from Denison and Ohio State Universities. I have two daughters, Jenny and Kim, who are beautiful, talented, and amazing. Jenny is a Michigan grad who works at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C., and Kim is a Duke grad who works at Georgetown University’s Center for Continuing Studies also in Washington D.C. I like to sing, work with my hands, work in my yard, play golf, and cheer for Duke Basketball and the Cardinals.
